Three Thing for Thursday: Mother’s Day Self-Care, Healing Herbs, and a Textile Documentary

I hope you’re having a great week. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I want to send a heartfelt thank you to all the incredible moms, grandmas, caregivers, and nurturers out there. You give so much every day – and just in case no one’s said it lately: you’re doing an amazing job!

Now for this week’s Three Things…

1. Nourishing the Nurturer: Simple Self-Care for Mother’s Day 💗

In the spirit of Mother’s Day, here are a few gentle, nourishing ways to refill your own cup (because your well-being matters more than you know). Sometimes the simplest acts of care can have the biggest impact on our nervous system, hormones, and even longevity. Here are a few you might love:

🌿 Move your body
Movement isn’t just good for physical health – it supports lymphatic flow, boosts mood by increasing endorphins, and even helps regulate circadian rhythms. Whether it’s a walk, gentle yoga, or dancing in your kitchen, your body (and mind) will thank you.

☕ Sip on something warm and soul-soothing
Warm beverages signal safety and calm to your nervous system. Golden milk(aka turmeric latte) has anti-inflammatory benefits, matcha supports focus with a gentle caffeine lift, and a cozy cocoa drink can boost serotonin, thanks to magnesium-rich cacao.

🛁 Take a soak
An Epsom salt bath doesn’t just relax your muscles – it may also support detox pathways and replenish magnesium, which many of us are low in (especially if we’re stressed). Bonus: warm baths can increase oxytocin levels and lower cortisol.

📖 Let yourself rest
Rest isn’t lazy – it’s essential. Even 10–15 minutes of intentional downtime (like reading or lying down with your eyes closed) allows your parasympathetic nervous system to activate, shifting you out of fight-or-flight and into restore-and-repair mode.

🧴 Pamper yourself
Touch is a powerful healer – massage, facials, or even a simple act like moisturizing your body with intention can lower stress hormones. Plus, bodywork increases dopamine and oxytocin, those feel-good bonding hormones.

📝 Journal or meditate
Journaling can bring clarity, calm racing thoughts, and actually lower inflammation markers in the body. Meditation, even for a few minutes, helps strengthen the brain’s gray matter associated with emotional regulation.

Even the smallest acts of self-care can help reset your body and mind – and the more consistently you weave them in, the more resilient you’ll feel in your day-to-day.

2. 6 Herbs I’m Working on Adding More of Into My Diet 🌿

Lately I’ve been making a more conscious effort to incorporate fresh herbs into our daily meals – not just for flavor, but for the amazing health benefits they quietly deliver. Herbs are some of the most underrated superfoods, packed with phytonutrients that support digestion, detoxification, and immune health.

One herb I’ve especially been reaching for is cilantro – known for its ability to help bind to and eliminate heavy metals from the body (a process known as chelation). It’s incredibly easy to toss into salsas, guacamole, salads, rice dishes, or anything with a hint of spice or zest.

Here are six fresh herbs I’ve been leaning into lately, and why they’re worth adding to your meals (or growing yourself!):

🌿 Cilantro – A gentle detoxifier known for helping the body eliminate heavy metals. Pairs great with lime, garlic, and spicy dishes.

🌿 Parsley – Rich in chlorophyll and vitamin K, parsley helps support kidney function, freshens breath, and can aid in digestion.

🌿 Basil – Contains anti-inflammatory compounds and powerful antioxidants. A mood-boosting herb that also supports cardiovascular health. Not just for pesto – try it in infused water or with fruit like watermelon!

🌿 Mint – Soothes the digestive tract, supports bile flow, and can calm nausea or bloating. It’s also naturally cooling – perfect in summer drinks, fruit salads, or teas.

🌿 Oregano – A potent antimicrobial with natural antibacterial and antiviral properties. Use it liberally in Italian dishes or steep it into a tea when you feel a scratch in your throat.

🌿 Dandelion (leaf & root) – A natural liver and gallbladder supporter, dandelion promotes gentle detox and can help with bloating or sluggish digestion. Try the leaves in salads or brew a dandelion root tea for its benefits.

Try adding one or two of these to your weekly meals or steep them in hot water for an herbal tea!

3. New Documentary: Let Them Be Naked

I love a good eye-opening documentary, and I’m excited about a new one that premiers today for free until Sunday. It’s called Let Them Be Naked, and it dives deep into the world of fashion and textiles, uncovering what our clothing is really made from and how synthetic materials and chemical dyes may be impacting both our health and the planet. It’s a conversation we don’t often have, and it’s an important one.

Lately, I’ve been really interested in learning more about the fabrics we wear on our bodies. Our clothing is in constant contact with our skin — which happens to be our largest organ. What goes on our skin doesn’t just stay on the surface; it can be absorbed into our bloodstream and affect our overall health. That includes everything from the materials themselves to the dyes and finishes used in production. If you’re curious about this too, Let Them Be Naked is streaming for free today (May 8th) through Mother’s Day.
